Al Merrick’s signature fin was one of the first Shaper Series templates in the FCS range. Today, the AM template is still favoured by recreational and tour surfers alike as a reliable high-performance fin.
Over the years these fins have undergone multiple graphic changes, but none as stealthy and sophisticated as the latest version of the FCS II AM PC.

AM TEMPLATE, CARVER FAMILY
Sitting in the Carver Family, the AM template has an elongated base, a high degree of sweep, a narrow tip and a traditional flat foil on the side fins. Both the Medium and Large sizes have a smaller centre fin offering quick tail release when performing critical turns.
PERFORMANCE CORE CONSTRUCTION
Performance Core (PC) fins have a progressive flex from the base through to the tip helping the everyday surfer to maintain drive and speed through turns. PC fins are versatile, very responsive, and can be used in a variety of different conditions.
WHY IS THE AM SO POPULAR?
Merrick found the tipping point when he designed the AM fins, that point where speed, response and control are distributed in equal quantities. The fins won’t feel flighty or sketchy when performing longer arcs on the open face, yet they’ll offer plenty of spark and liveliness in tighter sections. For these reasons the versatile nature of the AM template makes them ideal for shortboards with medium to high rocker.
SurFebruary is a fun annual event in February, where participants raise money for cancer research by catching a wave or getting in the water every day – rain, hail or shine.
